About us

Comhlacht Forbartha Áitiúil Acla, also known as The Achill Local Development Company, are a community cooperative dedicated to helping Achill achieve its full potential.

First established as Coiste Forbartha Áitiúil Acla in 1991 before registering as the company Comhlacht Forbartha Áitiúil Acla in 2000, CFÁA is a private company limited by guarantee with a fiduciary duty. In May 2003, CFÁA became a Registered Irish Charity, receiving charitable status for the stated charitable purposes and beneficiaries outlined in its mission statement.

The company is owned by its directors who set the strategy and direction for the extending members. All board members are intended to act as representatives of the community in the Parish of Achill, as well as represent the various agencies CFÁA partner with including Údarás na Gaelachta, Mayo County Council, Pobal, Fáilte Ireland, BIM, LEADER, South West Mayo Development Company, Mayo North East, The Department of Rural and Community Development and Achill Tourism.

By collaborating with members of the Achill community and these various agencies, CFÁA can support, create and develop projects, which will benefit the Parish under CFÁA’s four guiding pillars;

 – Enterprise and Employment

 – Language, Culture and Heritage

 – Strategic Projects

CFÁA’s mission is to promote and support the sustainable and inclusive social, economic and cultural development of the parish of Achill, thereby alleviating personal and communal disadvantage while also promoting the use of the Irish Language.
